St. Hyacinth, a native of Caesarea in Cappadocia, was raised in a Christian family. He became an honored servant of the Emperor Trajan. When the emperor learned that the 12-year-old boy was a secret Christian, he caused St. Hyacinth’s martyrdom in Rome in the year 108.
